VE Day Celebrations Statement by Royal British Legion

11/05/2020 by admin Parish Council

“On behalf of Timsbury Royal British Legion I would like to thank all those in Timsbury who attended the 2mins Silence in the morning at the Memorial.

Also it was great to see so many of you out having tea parties, clapping and cheering as we paraded around the village in the afternoon, in particular The Cheshire Home well done to the staff for getting everyone outside in their wheelchairs, fantastic! Thankyou to those who supplied us with food and drink on route aswell, we needed it.

I would also like to thank William Berttram for driving around his WWII American Jeep, (the jeep is a Normandy  veteran) which at one point we did’nt think it was going to make it, as we had to push start it, amazing! With the jeeps own air raid siren and music box in the back provided by Dan my next door neighbour. Thankyou to Danny who played a few old wartime songs on his trumpet and Gordon Whitton who joined us driving his British Army landrover as we went around  Bloomfield, brilliant! Also Barry Sewell the RBL Branch Chairman in full Navy uniform, who persevered and made it all the way round walking with me, hope you have recovered Barry.

Again I would like to thank everyone for making this a very special and memorable day in our Village History.”
