Timsbury used to have a far greater number of shops and services than those currently found in the village. A community project involving local residents took place to map and record the location and history of these shops and services.
A great deal of information came from the censuses and directories that can be seen in the History section of this website. But by far the greatest source was provided by local residents and others who once lived in the village. This has meant that an extensive history has been created which has identified over 80 shops and services. Though the use of the word shop creates the impression of a building with a large front window, many operated from a room within a residential building. The map is by no means complete. It will be updated if further information becomes available.
