Cricket 17.06.2023

18/06/2023 by Timsbury Parish Council

Timsbury 1st XI enjoyed a day to remember with a comprehensive ten-wicket win at home to Clevedon seconds  in the Bristol and District League Senior  Division. Having dismissed the visitors for 81 Timsbury reached their target just after four o’clock without losing a wicket.

Gary Pearcy made the early breakthrough for the home side and then Kev Sibley bowled a typically miserly spell of nine overs taking 3-12. Graeme Webb cleaned up the tail with 2-7 and the bowlers were aided by excellent fielding and some top catches. The two Timsbury openers, Mark Sage (46 not out) and Jon Strand (34 not out)  wasted no time in knocking off the runs and the job was completed in just over 13 overs.

Timsbury second eleven came out very much second best away to Abbots Leigh 1st XI  in the Bristol and District League Division 5. After inviting the home side to bat first Timsbury found it hard going in the field with Abbots Leigh ending their 40 overs on 243-6. Ed Markey led the way with 68, James Holdsworth made 44 and Dan Brussow 40.

Liam Hosford and Martin Richards both  bowled economical spells with Dan Hill taking 2-32. In reply the visitors made a poor start and apart from captain Ben Hosford, who struck a battling 45, Timsbury were never at the races eventually being dismissed for 104 to lose by 139 runs.  James Tucker did most of the damage for Abbots Leigh taking 5-30 in his eight overs.

Timsbury third XI  came close to claiming a remarkable win at home to Abbots Leigh seconds in the Bristol and District League Division 13 before eventually going down to a 11 run defeat. Chasing the visitors’ total of 192-6 Timsbury collapsed to 55-6 but a sterling rearguard  action commandeered  by Seb Nix took them close to a famous victory.

Abbots Leigh’s total owed much to Darren Weeks’ excellent undefeated 85 with good support from Adrian Weeks (36). The Timsbury recovery began when Matt Ball was joined by Nix. Ball was dismissed for 38 with the score on 98 but a partnership of 71 between  Nix and Chris Rawlings kept hopes alive. Rawlings went for 26 with the score on 169 and Nix was just unable to see his side across the line being last man out for an excellent 66 as Timsbury finished on 181-9. Giaco Bridgett was Abbots Leigh’s most successful bowler with 4-34.
