Timsbury continue to set the pace in the Bristol and District League Division 1 after another convincing 74-run win at home to Winterbourne 2nd XI. On a tricky pitch Timsbury were again grateful for the consistency of Mark Sage whose innings of 43 set the pattern for a challenging total of 156 after they were asked to bat first. The visitors’ bowling attack belied their lowly position in the league and the home side were grateful to a knock of 24 from Kev Sibley who. together with useful contributions from Cory Versfeld and Liam Hosford. rescued Timsbury from the perils of 102-7. Charlie Bowen took 3-17 for the visitors.
Winterbourne were soon in all sorts of trouble with an inspired Gary Pearcy taking 4-22 in his four overs as Winterbourne imploded to 25-6. A brave knock of 34 from Johnny Day then gave the visitors hope but Sibley capped a fine all-round match with three late wickets to secure a comfortable victory.
Timsbury’s second eleven are still searching for their first win of the season but they put in a tremendous performance away to Pucklechurch in the Bristol and District League Division 5 before eventually going down by five wickets. After opting to bat first they made a far from auspicious start subsiding to 36-5. Sol Thompson with 23 helped in the recovery before a superb seventh wicket partnership of 113 between Sam Sparks and Zak Cox turned the game on its head.
Sparks struck eight fours and five sixes before being last man out for an exhilarating 95 while Cox made an invaluable 42. Ryan Watts took 4-31 in the visitors’ innings of 202. It was Watts with the bat who then proved the thorn in Timsbury’s side. Opening the batting he hit a quickfire 81 with eight fours and five sixes and although acting captain Steve Clothier pegged the home side back with a spell of 2-22 from his eight overs Pucklechurch got over the line with just over two overs to spare.
