It has not been the greatest of seasons for Timsbury Cricket Club but there was no sign of low spirits when the club held its annual Presentation night in the clubroom. All three senior teams and the youth section were well represented as members shared the highs and lows of the latest campaign.
Chairman Ben Hosford who oversaw the proceedings said that it had been a challenging year with problems with availabilities at times which often made it hard to put out three teams. The first team had finished fourth in their first year back in the first division of the Bristol and District League but because of the problems with player numbers wins for the second and third teams were few and far between. However, the chairman said that morale in the club was still great and emphasised the culture of the club.
“We are here to celebrate all that is good about the club”, he said. “We have had an influx of new members, some great social nights and the refurbishment of the clubroom under the outstanding leadership of Dan Hill has been met with universal praise. The All Stars and Dynamos sessions were again an outstanding success and will hopefully set the base for the future of the club”.
Each of the captains then gave a report on the past season.
Freddie Hosford said that it had not been an easy year for the under 19s who had fielded a young side and had met some very strong opposition. The best performance he felt was away to Hampset where they were beaten by just four runs. The positive aspect was that 13 of the squad had played for the senior sides.
Chris Rawlings who took over as skipper of the third team felt the brunt of the problems with availabilities but emphasised that despite the difficult battles on the field the atmosphere in the side remained amazingly high. In all he had used 41 players and had fielded six different wicketkeepers.
After a number of successful seasons the seconds had a disappointing campaign and Ben Hosford in his role as captain said that there were so many disruptions that the season never really got going . Once again though the camaraderie and atmosphere was top class.
First team skipper Jesse Bishop looked back of a season that recorded 10 wins and seven defeats and but for a falling away in the closing stages could easily have ended in promotion. He felt that it was a credit to the club that they were able to field three sides on nearly all of the Saturdays.
