It proved a disappointing weekend for Timsbury Cricket Club with all three teams suffering defeats.
The first team’s position at the top of the Bristol and District League Division 1 lasted just one week following a seven-wicket defeat away to Whitchurch. Mark Sage and Ben Hosford gave the visitors a solid start with an opening stand of 51 but thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals. Paul Cracknell was the one batsman to look comfortable but after he ran himself out for 30 the innings faltered and eventually closed on 157 with James England taking 5-31.
Timsbury found it difficult to make significant breakthroughs when they took to the field but despite taking only three wickets they fought to the end and the home side only got over the line in the last over. Nick Beedell (42) and Ian Page (32) gave the Whitchurch innings early impetus and an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 62 between Greg Heal (36 not out) and William Beedell (27 not out) saw their side home.
Timsbury seconds were beaten by 33 runs at home to Bath 4th XI in the Bristol and District League Division 6 and it was one of their former members who came back to inflict the major damage. Dave Pippett who was in the Timsbury side that reached Lords in 2006 now captains the Bath side and he again gave evidence of his batting prowess with an outstanding knock of 101. With Will Blackmore making 41 the visitors reached 212-4 from their 40 overs.
Early knocks of 28 from Josh Tucker and 27 from Ollie Davis gave Timsbury a good start but a clatter of wickets saw the side decline to 97-6. A fine stand of 76 between George Webb (50) and Dan Nesbitt (38) then revived the home side’s hopes and 173-6 saw the game nicely balanced. Nesbitt and Webb then departed in quick succession and with John Ormesher taking 3-15 and Andy Roberts 3-36 Timsbury were all out for 179.
It was another difficult afternoon for Timsbury’s third team who were beaten by 10 wickets at home to Old Park in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East. Not one Timsbury player managed double figures as they were shot out for 50 and the visitors cruised home with Shane Sheppard 36 not out.
