Timsbury cricket 5.07.2025

07/07/2025 by Timsbury Parish Council

A fine all-round team performance saw Timsbury complete the double over Lansdown 2nd XI with a 28-run away win in the Bristol and District League Division 1. In a game reduced to a 25-over contest the old adage that catches win matches was never better illustrated than in this game where the Timsbury fielders took some absolute stunners .

After being put into bat the visiting openers Mark Sage and Jon Strand got Timsbury off to a dynamic start with an opening stand of 72 in just 12 overs. When Strand departed for 33 to be followed soon after by Sage (34) there was no let up in the positive approach. Lew Redwood (25), captain Jesse Bishop (26) and Freddie Hosford (18) all batted with a refreshing fluency. George Wood (2-21) and Alex Donovan (2-37) were the most successful of the home bowlers as Timsbury finished on 163-6.

When Lansdown replied Hosford set the trend with a superb caught and bowled and his effort was soon matched in the catching hall of fame by Redwood, Bishop and Gary Pearcy. A number of Lansdown batsmen got starts but with the exception of Sam Athay, who made 29, failed to make significant contributions. For Timsbury Strand followed up his batting exploits with 3-11, Pearcy took 3-30, Hosford ended a fine spell of five overs with 2-17 and Kev Sibley collected 2-30 as the home side were dismissed in the final over for 135.

Timsbury seconds put up a spirited display at home to league leaders Stoke Bishop but were eventually beaten by 65 runs in the Bristol and District League Division 6.  In just 27 overs the visitors compiled an impressive total of 243-4 led by William Monro (92), Harry Abel (56) and Torin Reedman (55).

It was always going to be a huge mountain to climb but the two in-form batsmen Josh Tucker and George Webb gave it a good go. Tucker made 53 and Webb 48 and with a timely contribution of 40 from Sol Thompson Timsbury managed to reach a respectable 178-5.

Captain Chris Rawlings led from the front for Timsbury’s third team who completed the double over Chilcompton 2nd XI at the school ground in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East. In another 25-over match he scored 34 as the home side reached 135-4. He was well supported by Max Steeds who made a very encouraging 36 and Matt Ball (21). Rawlings and Ball then showed their bowling prowess. The skipper took 4-28, Ball 2-13 and with 12 year old Albie Sage again showing his great promise with 2-33 the visitors finished on 125-8 to lose by 10 runs.
