By the barest of margins a much-changed Timsbury side suffered an agonising one-run defeat at home to Lodway in the Bristol and District League Division 1. It was a game where both sides failed to capitalise on good starts but in the end a crucial knock of 46 from Joe Rowsell proved to be the significant contribution.
Batting first the visitors put on 48 for the first wicket before imploding to 70-7 thanks principally to Jon Strand who took an inspired 6-21. Rowsell then took centre stage and helped his side to rally to 138 before Liam Hosford cleaned up the tail with figures of 3-27. Earlier Sam Hoddinott had gone wicketless but bowled a fine eight-over spell conceding just eight runs.
Ollie Davis (30) and Kev Sibley then gave Timsbury a good platform and with the in-form Lew Redwood making 24 the home side were well set at 91-2. It was then their turn to throw away the advantage and with Alfie Rendell taking 5-17 Timsbury lost their last eight wickets for just 46. Despite a spirited innings of 24 from James Rawlings they came up just short losing two wickets with the last two balls of the match.
Timsbury 2nd XI endured a difficult afternoon away to league leaders Bristol United Banks in the Bristol and District League Division 5 but showed plenty of bottle before losing by 108 runs. The home side rattled up an imposing 318-6 from their 40 overs with an undefeated century from Qamar Waraich and 88 from Gagandeep Singh. Without threatening the home side’s total Timsbury responded well and with 50 from both skipper Ben Hosford and Sol Thompson and 42 from Adam Workman the visitors finished with a creditable 210-8.
With so many players unavailable Timsbury 3rd XI were just happy to field a side away to Midsomer Norton thirds in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East but in the end they were well beaten by 172 runs. Mark Batchelar struck 120 for the home team, Sebastian Gianella made 58 and Rob Jones was undefeated with 46 in Midsomer Norton’s total of 315-3. In response Ben Smith batted well for his 64 and Henry Webb hit powerfully for his 34 but with Aaron Stansfield taking 4-30 Timsbury were dismissed for 143.
On a sad note the club was sad to hear of the death of another of its former players Robin Jones. The club send their condolences to all of Robin’s family.
