Saturday May 4th sees Timsbury Cricket Club embark on another season in the Bristol and District League with the first team at home to Golden Hill Second eleven. Last year was a disappointing one on the playing side with the first team relegated into the Bristol and District League Division 1. While many clubs struggle to run just one team Timsbury continue to field three sides with the first and second teams engaged on the Recreation Field and the thirds on the picturesque school ground.
Timsbury have fielded a cricket team for over 150 years on several different grounds in the village. The exact date of the formation of the club remains an unsolved mystery but a paper cutting from the Western Gazette on July 25th 1873 reports on a match away to Radstock. This is the earliest date so far unearthed.
Despite relegation the club face the new campaign with optimism and look forward to welcoming visitors and villagers to their newly refurbished clubroom. In many ways this year’s fixtures have a more appealing look with local derbies against the second strings of Midsomer Norton, Keynsham and Lansdown.
Practice sessions are held every Thursday evening on the Recreation Field and new members are always welcome. The popular sessions for children under 11 will continue to take place every Friday night.
The club is always pleased to welcome supporters and the early season ‘s home fixtures are as follows:
